Rabbit-Force Subs - for the sake of six billion humans' peace and happiness, we, The Rabbit-Force, bring you HQ anime!

finally... carrots!

After weeks of promises, lies and fake carrots, I give you Rurouni Kenshin 1-12! Episode 1 is v3, 2-5 are v2s, the rest is v1 ;) ..and it will stay this way :P I'm not going to release new versions of these episodes even if they released HD masters of it... (btw, Gundam Wing HD rips look good :o~).
The specs of the episodes, etc, will come after a break (I have a lecture in about 30 mins ;o).

Edit:
The codecs for video and audio are the same as before (x264 and Vorbis, repspectively), the bitrate of the video went down, however, the quality of the video went up ;o I (hopefully) improved as an encoder and took another look at the source, did some magic and now the result looks quite good, imo (I'll post some comparison screens later, if I'm not lazy...).
Next up is... I don't know >_>

by Question @ 06 Nov 2007 07:55 pm
Your Rurouni Kenshin releases thus far have had disoriented karaoke. The Japanese text at the top of the screen in the OP/ED are supposed to scroll when the words are transmitted from the audio, however with your releases, they are simply stuck in the middle for me, with one side of darkened text and the other lightened. In the screenshots that you provided earlier for your previous RK releases, I didn't see this occurring, and it seemed as it was working perfectly for you. Why is this? I have no codecs .. Not using CCCP, I followed your playback guide precisely. I have not have any problems thus far with any other anime, however yours seems to be giving me a few small problems. Can you explain why the OP/ED isn't displaying properly?

by Question2 @ 06 Nov 2007 08:10 pm
I have also noticed that somehow you are managing to cut the video time down twenty to even thirty seconds per episode. I've been comparing sources, and I just cannot figure out what exactly you're doing to make the film itself progressively shorter. I've been pondering as to if you're cutting out short, minuscule scenes from the episodes themselves, which wouldn't be very favorable. I, personally, couldn't care less about how small you can get your file sizes as long as it's somewhat reasonable for a video file. If you're cutting out the video to do it, or small scenes to do it, then it's meaningless. I can also see you're intent on keeping the file size to exactly, or around 142 MB per video file, when in truth the raws aren't actually so close in size of comparison. What exactly is taking place here? Care to explain?

by WarriorMage @ 06 Nov 2007 09:55 pm
Thanks a lot Igro, I didn't see U in the channel, so I thank U here. :)

About Question (1), have a look -using MPC- here... View/Options/Playback/Output. Then in DirectShow Video use System Default, or make some changes. Quit and load the ep again. VoilĂ .

Woot Kenshin!!!!!! Can't wait to watch'em!! laughing

Maaaaan, it DOES look better. U managed to remove much of the trembling!! *thumbs up*
smile

Keep it up!

by Me @ 07 Nov 2007 08:47 pm
Thanks for the reply, WarriorMage. Thus far I have tried all of the Playback Output options available in MPC, however none of them seen to solve this problem with the R-F releases. I simply cannot determine the source of error here ..

by igro @ 07 Nov 2007 09:40 pm
Dear.. err, 'Question'/'Question2'/'Me' :P
You probably have the internal MPC subtitle renderer turned on - right click on the video (while, say, watching my Kenshin encodes) and turn off the subtitles under 'Subitles' :p And make sure you have DirectVobSub under 'External Filters'.. there should be green arrow icon in the systray if VSFilter loads.

About your second comment ('Qusetion2'), of course I'm not cutting anything out, I can't imagine what would be the purpose of such an evil and twisted act ;) The differences you see in duration are probably from the fact that I use the R2J raws, while all the other groups used R1. Plus, iirc, the R1 had this crappy title screen or sth at the end of each episode... maybe that's your missing seconds..
"I can also see you're intent on keeping the file size to exactly, or around 142 MB per video file, *when in truth the raws aren't actually so close in size of comparison*. What exactly is taking place here? Care to explain?"
Can't say I understand what you are asking about >_<;

by vinay @ 08 Nov 2007 07:42 am
can you tell me what encoder you use?

by igro @ 08 Nov 2007 05:48 pm
x264, of course :3
Recently, I've trying out the patched versions (http://mirror05.x264.nl/Cef/), they have soem improvements not found in the official tree.

by Me @ 09 Nov 2007 12:41 am
Once again, thanks for the reply. I have reassured that the VSFilter/DirectVobSub was installed, and it was, and with the default MPC subtitles on or off the difference doesn't matter. The karaoke refuses to display properly. This is very, very frustrating. Is there nothing I can do to get the karaoke to display properly? Oh, and you can disregard the last part of question two.

by igro @ 09 Nov 2007 02:58 am
Eh, forgot about one little thing - in DirectVobSub properities, find the option 'Prebuffer images' (or sth like that) and uncheck it. That SHOULD do the trick..

by WarriorMage @ 09 Nov 2007 03:25 pm
Yeah, igro is right. That worked 4 me some time ago. Go to Properties/Misc and uncheck "Pre-buffer subpictures". I think that'll work fine.

by Me @ 10 Nov 2007 05:37 am
Thanks for the speedy replies from the both of you. Well, I don't know what to tell you. I've basically uninstaller and reinstalled everything related to playback, and followed the guide once more with the addition of unchecking "Pre-buffer subpictures". The problem remains unsolved. Every other anime that I have works perfectly on MPC and the karaoke displays correctly. Could it be my computer? Do you want screen shots? I'm tapped on ideas.

by Me @ 10 Nov 2007 04:00 pm
Oh, and if you want some frames of reference, Rogafufu-Ken doesn't display properly in your DB releases, episode 5. However, in your DB separate Opening / Ending files the karaoke seems to be displaying perfectly. =/

by Fog @ 11 Nov 2007 12:34 am
Are you sure that you don't have MPC and VSFilter showing the subtitles?

If you followed the previous replies but have the MPC showing the subtitles It causes the same problem, because MPC is by default also pre-bufering the subtitles

If you go, in MPC, to Options->Subtitles It has a up/down text area with a number (with the label "Number of subpictures to buffer ahead:", put the value to 0 and reopen the video (in case you had it open)

If you disable the pre-buffer in VSFilter and the "Number of subpictures to buffer ahead:" in MPC you can use either the MPC internal subtitle support or the VSFilter to show the subtitles with no problems, at least it not giving-me any problem

All this is based on your reference, episode 5 of DB at Rogafufu-Ken attack...

by Seiya Tenken @ 11 Nov 2007 02:45 am
Megaupload mirrors please!!! crying

by Me @ 11 Nov 2007 09:06 am
Holy shit. Problem solved? Setting The subpicture to 0 actually fixed the problem. Awesome. Thanks a lot Fog, as well as Igro and WarriorMage. Sorry that I couldn't figure this out myself =(

by WarriorMage @ 11 Nov 2007 11:30 am
Glad U solved the problem. Interesting what Fog said, because I have "3" in that option & still watch these eps with no problem O.O?

Omoshiroi desu ne~ xD

by igro @ 11 Nov 2007 11:37 pm
Fog, nice tip with the MPC subtitle renderer - I thought it couldn't handle all the ASS overrides, but it seems that it can ;)
WarriorMage, you don't have any problems because you are probably using VSFilter to display subitles, which is independent of the MPC's one.
Me, glad you sorted out your problem :D It seems that you didn't quite disabled the MPC subtitle renderer.. Anyway, you could see the karaoke effects in the OP/ED of mine release (and various other releases) because those effects are 'merged' with the video (hardsubbed), meaning they are in fact part of the video now, instead of being subtitles that need to be rendered. The Rogafufu-Ken attack is an example of a subtitle that needs to rendered in real time to achieve the nice 'karaoke' effect. I've hardsubbed the OP/ED, because it would require a really fast CPU to show those effects in real time.
Seiya Tenken, I'm working on those mirrors, just be patient a bit more.. :D But I won't upload to Megaupload :P They suck big time for their ultra long queues (never actually mangaed to dl a file from them >_>).

by ukoziak @ 17 Nov 2007 01:22 am
Hey igro, maybe you can do the same thing as Hitsuji's "The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" for Dragon Ball. 2 (in Hitsuji's case 3) different options for the subs. One with nice Karaoke effects (which requires a fast CPU) and one without (no effects, just plain subs). Just an idea.

by draickin @ 17 Nov 2007 06:05 am
I hope this has not been asked before, but when are you planning on doing the kenshin OVA? I'm not asking 'cause I'm in a hurry, I just wanna know if it will be before or after you've finished the series laughing

by igro @ 19 Nov 2007 08:03 pm
ukoziak: where are thou~? Come join the channel.. About your idea - for DB that wouldn't really work, because I hardsub the OP and ED karaoke, meaning they become the part of the video, no additional CPU processing needed. As for applying that to RK.. atm the 'effects' I use for RK's OP and ED are so plain/simple that they don't require much more CPU power than normal, static ASS. And I'll probably be switching to hardsubbed karaoke for the ED from the 13th episode on..

draickin: sure you can ask (as long as it's not every day and in a rather polite way ;)) - actually the RK OVA is encoded, BUT I had some problems with the subs - the AnimeHQ's I had.. well.. they sucked big time, the translation :o So I've been searching for a different English DVD release (by a different company/whatever) and yesterday I got lucky.
So, if there won't be any problems with the QC, the OVA should be out this week/beginning of the next.

PS: I really need to setup a forum... OTL

by ukoziak @ 22 Nov 2007 08:29 pm
About the karaoke. Hitsuji had karaoke effects which my computer couldn't handle. So they added another subtitle track that didn't have those effects, so I could still have karaoke but without the effects. This way, you also still have the option to turn off the subs whenever you want, and have a clean RAW version of the opening (some people like to have that). And if people still want to see karaoke effects that badly but have an old computer, they know what to do (like me :P). Basically, I just like the fact that the releases also contain the original RAW video without anything hardsubbed. But, it's your call of course ;)

By the way, Hitsuji's Haruhi version is really similar to what you are trying to achieve with Dragon Ball. When I saw their releases, I immediately thought about our DB releases. They also use the same op/ed theme for each episode, use mkv playlists etc. I think their release is very good. You should check it out sometime.

And I've been really busy these days. I will try to come by the channel this weekend. I've been to the channel a few times already, but you weren't around.

by ukoziak @ 22 Nov 2007 08:31 pm
Oh, and yeah, a forum would be nice smile

by pokute @ 30 Nov 2007 01:30 am
Yeah, the website looks very cool, but a forum would be a big improvement over this scrolling scroll thingy!

I have the Kenshin OVA's on dvd, and the subtitles are some of the worst I've ever seen... They went crazy with localization and rewrote Japanese history!
